At Empatheia, we understand how scary your diagnosis can be, which is why we work as a registered charity and focus on offering access to the latest information and support as you go through treatment.

We believe that everyone should be given a chance to battle their disease with dignity, regardless of geographic location and socioeconomic boundaries. Cost and availability should not affect chances of receiving the right treatment, which is why we work to give everyone the support they need.

There is another element to our work. We are strongly involved in advocacy, targeting funding to where it is needed most and coordinating education and prevention efforts.

Liver disease is on the rise all over the world, especially in developing countries, and even Canada is not an exception where it affects one in four people. But 90 per cent of cases are preventable. Unfortunately, many cases are diagnosed late as it can be hard to recognize the symptoms and there is often a lack of knowledge about the causes and treatments of the disease. Likewise, with cancer, depending on which cancer patients are suffering from, diagnosis can be late, and treatment can seem scary. Kidney conditions are even more prominent, especially among young kids around the globe.
